Yup, it’s Dead Sea Scrolls update time! Got another complete collection for everyone today – Leviticus.

This now just leaves two books of the Torah left to complete (Exodus and Deuteronomy), as well as the vast amount of Psalms (both ‘canonical’ and ‘non-canonical’) found at Qumran.

As usual, please find all Downloads available on TWTY on the Downloads Page, and the links to the Leviticus manuscripts are below 🙂

Dead Sea Scrolls – Numbers Complete

November 1st, 2013

Dead Sea Scrolls Transcription time again – this time it is the complete collection of DSS Numbers manuscripts, with the final two being online for download at TWTY Downloads page (bringing the total to 11), as we as some quick links below 🙂

This means that there are only four more books left to have their Dead Sea Scrolls transcriptions posted online – the rest of the manuscripts of Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and the Psalms. I will be endeavouring to have these done within the next 6 months or so (hopefully sooner, time permitting!) 🙂

Dead Sea Scrolls: Isaiah Complete & More

July 25th, 2013

Well it’s the usual time again: more Dead Sea Scrolls transcriptions!

TWTY has the final two manuscripts of Isaiah now online, plus the last three manuscripts of Jeremiah as well, bringing the total now to 31 complete books out of 38! (Remember, Esther was nowhere to be seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls – neither a manuscript of the book, nor a quotation of it anywhere in the non-Scriptural writings of the Dead Sea Sect.)

There’s also been a bit of “re-arranging” on TWTY: anything pertaining to the Renewed Covenant now appears on a collective page; anything regarding the Apocrypha or non-Canonical writings are on their own page; and there are two new sections: Septuagint and Tanakh

I’ll let you guess what the last two are in reference to 😉 (Also, there’s nothing yet on them)

Isaiah

1Q Isaiahb (1QIsab) | 4Q57 Isaiahc (4QIsac)

Jeremiah

2Q13 Jeremiah (2QJer) | 4Q70 Jeremiaha (4QJera) | 4Q72 Jeremiahc (4QJerc)

Dead Sea Scrolls – More Transcriptions

June 21st, 2013

Well I said I would do it, and I have! I’ve now uploaded at least one Dead Sea Scroll manuscript transcription of all the Tanakh books that were found in the Qumranic caves (all bar Esther, which the Dead Sea Scrolls community didn’t accept as Scripture).

Still a ways to go (especially for large manuscripts), but we’re definitely getting there!

Find links to all the recently uploaded Manuscripts below, but don’t forget to visit the TWTY Downloads page for the rest of them, plus downloads of all the stuff available on TWTY 🙂

Dead Sea Scrolls – 19 Isaiah Manuscripts + Extra

May 22nd, 2013

Well, it’s Dead Sea Scrolls update time again: I just finished uploading another 19 Isaiah manuscripts. This brings the grand total to 20, with two more to go, which I’ll be putting on hold for a bit, as I plan on getting at least one manuscript transcription of each of the other remaining books online in the upcoming future.

There are at least 7 books that I haven’t uploaded any manuscript transcription of just yet (The other remaining “Major Prophets” Jeremiah and Ezekiel; along with Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, as well as the Psalms), and as I dislike seeing the None as of yet text on TWTY’s Downloads Page, I’ll be seeking to rectify that this summer 🙂

I’ve also uploaded a new edited form of the Greek text to The Gospel of Peter, thanks to a new book I purchased recently that had an up-to-date transcription of several GoP manuscripts (Andrew Bernhard, Other Early Christian Gospels: A Critical Edition of the Surviving Greek Manuscripts (T&T Clark Biblical Studies, 2007))

As usual, find all manuscript transcriptions on the Downloads Page, plus a few quick links below 🙂

Dead Sea Scrolls – The Great Isaiah Scroll

May 8th, 2013

Quite probably the most famous Dead Sea Scroll of them all – The Great Isaiah Scroll – has now been transcribed and compared with the Masoretic text of the Lenningrad/Aleppo Codices, and uploaded onto TWTY.

Out of the 1291 verses that comprise the Book of Isaiah (Yasha’Yahu) in the Hebrew (English versions usually have 1292 verses), only 77 of the verses have not changed between The Great Isaiah Scroll and those found in the Lenningrad/Aleppo Codices that the Masoretes produced in the 11th-12th Centuries. That means that less than 6% of the verses have not changed.

If you think the Masoretes accurately copied their Hebrew texts letter by letter and word for word – think again 🙂

Update! Job & Song of Songs

January 27th, 2013

Okay – these are the last batch of the “small” Tanakh book Dead Sea Scrolls transcriptions before tackling the much larger books.

Among the Dead Sea Scrolls, there are four manuscripts for the books of Job and Song of Songs – with Song of Songs (a.k.a Canticles) being quite well preserved, but only several words of several verses from 10 of the 42 chapters of Job being preserved for over 2000 years.

The most interesting manuscript is the one named 4Q101 paleoJobc, which, as its name suggests, is written in Paleo Hebrew, not the Phoenician “square” Hebrew script.

As usual, find all Dead Sea Scrolls transcriptions on the TWTY Downloads page 🙂

Job
2Q15 Job (2QJob) | 4Q99 Joba (4QJoba) | 4Q100 Jobb (4QJobb) | 4Q101 paleoJobc (4QpaleoJobc)

Song of Songs (Canticles)
4Q106 Canticlesa (4Q Canticlesa) | 4Q107 Canticlesb (4Q Canticlesb) | 4Q108 Canticlesc (4Q Canticlesc) | 6Q6 Canticles (6Q Canticles)

Dead Sea Scrolls Update – Four Complete Books

January 4th, 2013

Yes, it’s Dead Sea Scrolls update time again.

TWTY has got four books completed for you this time: Daniel, Ecclesiastes/Qohelet, Ezra, and Lamentations!

This therefore leaves just one of the “smaller” books left to do (Song of Songs, which also happens to be quite well preserved), before TWTY starts tackling the much, much larger Prophetic books, as well as the “Poetic” books of the Psalms and Job, culminating in the Five books of Moses/the Torah.

I do actually plan on finishing the Dead Sea Scrolls transcriptions this year, so I’d better start cracking on with them, once this is posted! 🙂
